Josef Ferguson and Neal Johnson oversee the dining room, decorated with colorful folk art, and its adjacent terrace, great for people-watching. Lexington, KY

    (859) 785-3690

When this companion piece to Zim’s Cafe was still under development at the Historic Courthouse Square in downtown Lexington, Ky., Ouita Michel pulled a sly one on former Holly Hill & Company executive Doug Mullins and named it after a suburban Chicago bar that he once owned. The Thirsty Fox is a popular stop for visitors to the adjacent VisitLex Visitors Center and offers an opportune spot to sample the bourbons they may have just learned about. Sample a bespoke cocktail or share a toast with beverage manager Julianna Santo, who leads our Wine Me Up tastings. Order lunch or dinner from Zim’s Cafe to accompany your chosen libation and settle in for a relaxing break from the everyday.

Located in what was once the cafeteria of the former Midway School, the Midway Bakery honors its hometown roots by preparing everything from scratch. We use real butter and natural ingredients and work from traditional recipes. Nearby Weisenberger Mill supplies our cornmeal and flour; much of the wheat and corn is Kentucky-grown; and our chocolate and cocoa powder come from Ruth Hunt Candies in Mt. Sterling, Ky.
